Time To Renew

Jaclynn Marie Author – A Young Writer Sharing Her Journey

Well another blogging year is coming to an end and I have to make a choice to renew or not too. To be completely honest this last year of writing on WordPress has been a real pain in ass. This new editing system, my site always having errors, editing not saving, along with comment not showing up. Sometimes people can’t even click on my blog at all and there’s nothing I can do to fix it because it’s a WordPress issue.

I paid for a working site and although I understand things happen, it still sucks paying for a broken… anything. This is why I just don’t know if I want to keep doing this.

I wonder what plan is actually best for a blogger like me? Someone who documents her life, process things through her writing and toys around with poetry. I’m not a big time, major writer so what kind of plan should I be paying for, if I stay with this?

As of now I have a business plan which is a step up from what I had the years before. It’s weird to me to have a business plan when I’m not conducting a business. There’s good things about the Business Plan but I just don’t know if it’s right for the type of blogging I do. Plus, as a writer I am changing and it’s causing me to write less because I want to work more on my editing skills and explore new avenues. Is a Business plan really needed? Especially, if WordPress doesn’t even work half the time? I’m struggling!

So I am coming to you my fellow bloggers! What do you use? What do you think would be best for me? I’m seriously curious what you all use and what are your thoughts about these different plans.

Let me know in the comments! I can’t wait to hear from you! October I have to renew or not…so I hope to hear from you all!

  1. I have/had a plain free blog. The only issues I had were my comment would go to spam and some of my followers couldn’t comment. But for free, it wasn’t bad.

I encourage you to keep writing. You are a writer, Skelly! A writer, a poet, a creative mind and a very personable soul.

Believe me, I fully understand the aggravation and the burn out… but I know you fairly well. And this is more than blogging to you. This is for you and the people who are brought your way. I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog. Not every post has been pretty but real. And it’s as real as life gets. So, I’m passing my baton on to you.

      1. I’m planning on leaving tomorrow. I wanted to give enough time for everyone to see my post and a chance for me to give my goodbyes. Until then, I still read.

      2. I do and I don’t.

I spend more time reading blogs and making stupid comments rather than praying and studying my Bible. The blog becomes an awful addiction.

While I thoroughly enjoy poetry and writing that intrigues me, it’s not why I’m here. I lose focus too easily and it becomes a problem. So I have to do something about it.

    1. That kind of you to say. Now I have read 3 comments that say to go free so it’s something I’ll have to think about. I would be sad to never write again. I don’t think I could do that but maybe another site other than WordPress. I would hate to start all over but it’s something I am thinking about.

  2. I don’t really have a plan. I think I am on the free service as I have never paid WordPress a penny.

The block editor appeared last week, and it is slowing me down. So I have decided to take the pressure off myself by republishing some of my older posts as well as the new ones until I am up to speed with the new software.

I am sad that the block editor has caused some lovely bloggers to give up. Suze was one of my favourite bloggers and she it made me sad that we don’t see her posts anymore.

Any change takes a while to adapt to. We have a new software roll out at work on Tuesday – I am super scared of that! All our patients are going to think we are muppets while we figure out what we are doing.

    1. It’s just very glitchy. I write a post that takes me forever and then go over to edit it and add pictures and tags but then I go back to read what I published it’s like I never did anything at all to it. It’s pretty frustrating when you work so hard and have nothing to show for it. I guess I could just do the free thing but I want to own my writing not wordpress…I feel like I have to do something. I know you’re right…it takes time to learn a new system.

      1. I don’t understand why some of the imaging blocks work on the site but not in WP Reader. I reckon 90% of reading is done in the Reader. Most of us never visit a blogger’s site unless they only leave an excerpt. So over the last few month I have seen some weird looking posts in the Reader. Now I have the joy of seeing my own posts looking odd.

      2. Yeah that’s a pain. I create a post to look a certain way. It sucks for it to not show up looking how I want it to. I am always on WP Reader…you’d expect you blog post to look the way you created it to everywhere it can be seen.

      1. I have been on the free plan free plan since I started. But with my me adding more photos into the mix I will have to upgrade eventually. I, for one do not like the new format. But it’s what WordPress is pushing without asking the writers what they prefer.

There are issues, yes. But from what I’ve heard from others outside the WordPress community there are issues everywhere.

A business plan is what is needed for image storage for all us non business bloggers. Plus you can monetize your blog, which is where I am headed next year.

But ultimately the choice is yours sis. Find what’s suits you!

      2. Thank you so much for your input! You gave me a lot to think about. I have the business one now and I’m not sure if I should keep it it is $300! With it being so expensive and then not working half the time, it’s pretty frustrating! I definitely have some things to consider.

  3. I’ve also got the business plan, and the increasingly bugginess is getting pretty frustrating, especially with paying so much. It doesn’t sound like business plan is necessary for what you’re trying to do. If you get the personal plan (I think that’s what it’s called – the first step up from the free plan) you can keep your domain name and not have WordPress run ads on your site. That’s what I had before I upgraded to business plan.

    1. You comment was hidden in my spam! Dang it! Your comments have ended up there before! I’m sorry!
Thanks for the advice! I think I will do that…if I stay with WP.

    2. Thanks for your input! I think last year when it was time to renew I got super confused and did the business one but I shouldn’t have ever had that. My blog is not made for that level for sure. I went down to Premium and I love it! My blog is simply now…SO much better!
